Merrill Caviness, Pastor

Every church that I have served has had a school as well. I have always loved teaching and ministering to children. Each week I love to share the story of their best friend, Jesus. It is true that children have a more open heart to know and love Jesus. I love teaching and interacting with the students when I can. It is my privilege to be a part of the ministry at Riverside Christian School.

Pastor Merrill was born and raised in Clark County.  He attended high school at Columbia Adventist Academy when it was still a boarding school. He then graduated from Walla Walla University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. Pastor Merrill also finished his pre-med requirements planning on going on to medical school. But God had a different plan – calling him into full-time ministry.

Pastor Merrill served the Lord as a literature evangelist for 10 years before he became a pastor. His training of working with people in the sale of Christian literature prepared him for his pastoral ministry. He has been a pastor for the last 22 years. He loves people. And, he loves sharing his love of Jesus with them.

His pastoral ministry has taken him from coast to coast and in the middle. In addition to the Northwest, he and his family have served in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Maryland, Delaware, and southern California.

Pastor Merrill has a family that he loves, his wife Pam who works as a CNA and four grown children they share. They also have three wonderful grandchildren. He and Pam enjoy their dogs, hiking in the Columbia Gorge, and spending time with their grandchildren when they can.
