Both personal and academic experiences have led me to be a part of this amazing Riverside team. My earliest memories include the classrooms and teachers’ room of the elementary school where my grandmother taught for over 30 years. She began bringing me to visit her classroom several times a year before I could even talk. I remember handing out papers, doing art and reading projects, playing teacher, and going to the school library. My grandmother’s enthusiasm for learning became mine as well.
Initially I majored in Elementary Education at Walla Walla University, but as I became more involved with the Modern Languages Department, that soon developed into a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and in French. I was a teacher’s aid and Spanish and ELL tutor throughout most of my years there. After graduating with BA’s in French and Spanish, and a brief detour to complete a Juris Doctorate at Willamette University, I returned to my true passion and enrolled in University of Oregon’s Foreign Language Teacher Certification program and Interdisciplinary Master’s Degree in Spanish and Education.
For the past 20 years I have enthusiastically sought to instill in my students a competence in and love for creating, exploring, and taking learning risks. It has always been one of my foremost goals a teacher to create a classroom environment that motivates students toward cultural enrichment and life skills development, as well as language learning. I am SO excited to bring these years of experience and joy into the Riverside Pre Kindergarten.
